Here are the bits and bites of nutritional info and some other interesting facts about this lovely fruit I wanted to share with you -Pineapple is believed to have first originated in South America, and soon after grown in the Caribbean. -Pineapples were coveted by the early American colonists. -Pineapple became a sought after symbol of prestige and social class. Because fresh Pineapples were rare and quite expensive, all a party host/hostess had to do was use the fruit as a centerpiece, and he/she would looked upon with high regard and awe. -The area closer to the base of the fruit has more sugar content and therefore a sweeter taste and more tender texture. -One cup of diced pineapple contains about 75 calories. -Pineapple is an excellent source of manganese and Vitamin B1. These nutrients help in energy production and have antioxidant properties. -For Vitamin C and fiber, eat some pineapple! -Pineapple contains bromelain, which has been shown to help improve digestion.
